Geoffrey Key

Lancashire artist, Geoffrey was born in 1941 and educated in Manchester. In 1958, Geoffrey joined Manchester's Regional College of Art where he received sound academic training from leading figures such as the sculptor, Ted Roocroft, and the painter, Harry Rutherford. In 1968, Geoffrey was elected to membership of the prestigious Manchester Academy of Fine Arts. In the early 1990s Geoffrey exhibited in Hong Kong. This experience proved a catalyst in his change in the use of colour in his artworks, thereafter becoming a fuller more vibrant palate. Geoffrey's wonderful imagination combined with fine draughtsmanship, creates phenomenally powerful images by reassembling his subjects from different angles with different shapes. His emphasis on form produces elegant, powerful and balanced images, often moody and full of guts. Together with his harmonious use of vibrant colours, these compelling and distinctive surreal compositions are enduring aspects of his incredible talent. Technically brilliant, his unique masterly style has brought him international acclaim and a strong following of serious collectors not only of his drawings and paintings, but also of his sculptures. Geoffrey is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary artists in Britain today. His artworks are held in public, corporate and private collections worldwide. His work has been the subject of a number of published books and articles.
