Terry Watts

Vast skies and an original approach to English landscape are the unique characteristics of Terry’s popular paintings. His large open spaces have a majestic emptiness, allowing the forces of nature to capture the atmosphere of the place. Terry creates movement in the way he structures the landscapes and the skies with their various patterns formed by the changing light on his unusual wide perspectives. Normally, Terry uses acrylic paints on canvass stretched on a block stretcher and exhibited without a frame. He continues the picture around the edge of the stretcher. Terry also paints on paper displayed under framed glass. He uses a limited range of pigments on his palette as he prefers to create all his own colours. Terry left the Camberwell College of Art in 1962, continuing his training at the Hammersmith College of Art where he studied ceramics. Terry has undertaken large sculptural and painting commissions for several British private and public institutions. He has exhibited widely and successfully in Southern England and his artworks are represented in public collections in Britain, Paris, the Netherlands, Washington State, and in private collections worldwide. Terry was elected to the prestigious Royal Society of British Artists in 2006. He has been awarded numerous prizes for his fascinating paintings, and his much admired artistic talents have been the subject of numerous published articles.
