Hurst Balmford

Born in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, Hurst studied at the Royal College of Art and at Julian's Art Academy in Paris. Originally an Architect, in 1920s Hurst became Headmaster at the Morecambe School of Art. He was an active member of the St Ives Society of Artists (c1927-c1939) and exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Annual Exhibitions. By 1938, he was living in Blackpool enjoying music as he was proficient on the violin and the viola. Primarily, Hurst was a portrait, landscape and coastal scenes painter in oils and in watercolour. His popular artworks are impressionist in style, accomplished and pleasing to the viewer's eye. Hurst's paintings hang in public and private collections.
